NEI was hired as the Consulting Engineer to design the electrical system for a 50 MW gas turbine power plant which will be expanded to 100MW in the near future. The plant also has the capability of "black start" and it is planned to island the plant to supply the city of Smyrna if necessary.
The complete design consisted of the utility interconnection and auxiliary power design for one present and one future 50 MW General Electric LM6000 gas turbine. The generator transformer was a 120 MVA top rating 13.2 to 138 kV transformer delivering power to the 138 kV transmission system and the auxiliary plant loads
NEI is responsible for producing the complete electrical engineering design documents for the interconnection of the plant to the utility. Also, NEI provided the design for connection of all electrical plant loads and all protective relaying. NEI performed short circuit and coordination studies and provided relay settings
NEI also aided the local utility during construction and startup and commissioning. NEI programmed and tested the relays and coordinated all design problems with the local utility.
We also provided testing and commissioning services and aided in plant startup.
NEI provided the following services:
- Conceptual and detailed design
- Relay panel design and wiring diagrams
- Submittal evaluation for major equipment
- Relay settings
- Equipment testing specifications
- Project engineering support
- Coordination with utility
- Aid during construction
- Help during startup and commissioning
Plant startup was January 2002.
