IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) Executive Director, Special Projects, Patrick McCarren, joined NEI's Clifton Oertli for PowerLunch on Wednesday, August 16, 2020. In his role as Executive Director he is responsible for the management of IAS, one of IEEE’s largest and most active societies. In addition, he is the staff liaison to the Technical Activities Committee on Standards and has oversight with the Electron Devices Society. Patrick has spent his entire life working in the association industry. Prior to IEEE, he worked at NAFA Fleet Management Association as Deputy Executive Director for 15 years. From 1990-1999 he was the Associate Director, SIG Services at the Association for Computing Machinery (a sister society of the IEEE Computer Society). He began his career as the Education Manager at the Society of Cosmetic Chemists.
Patrick received his Certified Association Executive (CAE) certification from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) in 2014.
Patrick lives in Manasquan, NJ, a small beach town on the Jersey shore with his wife. Naturally he enjoys the beach, and taking cruise vacations with his family. He just completed one of his major life goals; having his 3 children graduate from college. His youngest daughter Brianna just graduated from Loyola University Maryland and will teach in Baltimore County, his sons live in Hoboken, NJ and work in NYC.
