Carson Bates, PhD, PE
Carson Bates joined NEI in 2011 and has since participated in and lead countless projects. Carson received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical) from the Colorado School of Mines in 2010. He later received his Master of Science in Electric Power and Energy Systems in 2013, followed by his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 2018 – both from the Colorado School of Mines.
Carson’s role at NEI is that of lead electrical engineer for a variety of projects ranging from large scale projects, including utility-scale renewable generation, to oil and gas production facilities, down to smaller projects such as fault troubleshooting or arc flash mitigation. In addition to office work, Carson commissions substations including equipment testing, relay testing, and SCADA commissioning. He also provides onsite oversight as an owner’s engineer.
Carson brings valuable industry knowledge and years of hands-on experience to every project team. His skills, coupled with strong leadership, allows him to deliver thoughtful, reliable solutions to every energy project in which he is involved.
Additionally, he is an active member of IEEE IAS Petroleum and Chemical Committee (PCIC), as well as IEEE IAS Industrial and Commercial Power Systems (I&CPS), serving on subcommittees for both organizations.
